Pokemon Stats Explanation

Although there are many Pokemon of the same species in the world, it does not mean that they are exactly the same. Each Pokemon is defined by certain things that define who it is. Some of these things you will be able to change throughout the span of your campaign. Some of them you won't and it is the way the Pokemon is.

Here is an explanation of all of the features that your Pokemon has.

Stats

  • Health: A very basic stat in any RPG that you play. Your Pokemon each have their own life total and will take damage. The Pokemon RPG is very different from most other RPGs in the way that your trainer can't actually take any damage. You Pokemon will take the damage and if they run out of health then that pokemon must be taken out of the battle and a new one will come in. When a Pokemon faints, its loyalty goes up 1 point.
  • PP (Power Point): In the Pokemon video games each move of each pokemon has its own pp. What is pp? PP is the energy that it requires to perform a move. In the Pokemon RPG, each Pokemon has it's own PP instead of each move. It is now the energy of the Pokemon. Now, each move has a pp cost and will take away from the Pokemon's main pp. For example, if my Charmander has two moves (Scratch which costs 1 pp and flamethrower which costs 10 pp) and he also has 25 pp then I can only use flamethrower twice in a battle. Each flamethrower would have used 10 pp and left my Charmander with 5 pp. So I could scratch for 5 turns before my Charmander would start to hurt itself each time it attacked. There is a lot of strategy with PP and different ways to save up your moves. Make sure to not use all your big moves right away and strand yourself with nothing. Items like Either can replenish your Pokemon's pp.
  • Loyalty: This is a brand new stat just for this RPG. In the Pokemon video games your Pokemon don't always listen to you. Usually the higher level they are the harder it is to get them to do the things you want. Loyalty in this game helps serve this purpose and also be a representation of your relationship with your pokemon. How relationship affects your pokemon shows itself mostly in battle. Before each attack your Pokemon makes, you will need to make a Loyalty check. Loyalty checks are done by rolling a 6 sided dice. If you roll equal to or higher than your Loyalty then your Pokemon listens to you and does the attack. If not, then your Pokemon doesn't listen and you lose your turn. Ways to get your Loyalty down are making relationship checks on your pokemon, feeding them, and successfully winning battles. Having your Pokemon faint will result in their loyalty going up one point.
  • Attack (Physical): Each move has one of two distinctions of what type of attack it is: Physical or Special. If an attack is a physical attack then you would roll your Attack stat dice for those attacks. Moves that use Attack are moves that physically touch the other Pokemon (i.e. scratch, rock throw, or fire punch). Certain types use Physical type attacks more. Make sure to research your type and the moves you have to decide whether to put points in this or Special.
  • Special Attack: Special Attack is the other other option that moves can have besides Physical. Usually this moves are elemental moves (i.e. psychic, stun spore, water gun).
  • Defense (Physical): When a Pokemon uses a Physical attack against your Pokemon, you will roll based on your Defense stat. Each Defense stat counts for one purple dice. This gives you the possibility of weakening their attack or even getting them to miss all together.
  • Special Defense: This type of defense blocks Special Attack that target your pokemon. Just like Defense, you will roll purple dice based on this stat.
  • Speed: Speed is an integral part of your Pokemon arsenal for several reasons. First of all, the order in which pokemon attack is based on speed. If there are ties then you will roll to see who goes first based on the speed amount. Additionally (and more importantly), your Pokemon's critical chance is dependant on your Pokemon's speed stat. Criticals always take 5 advantage to hit. For each speed stat you have it decreases that amount. So if my Pokemon has 3 speed, then it only takes 2 advantages to critical. With 4 advantages you could double critical. This is a huge boost.
